What are “Heat Embargos” and How do They Impact an Assignee’s Pets?

From May 15th to September 15th, airlines have “Heat Embargos.” This is because the transport vehicles which take cargo from the plane to the baggage areas can become extremely hot, seeing temperatures that can be life-threatening to pets. If travel must be arranged during these months, we will work with you to determine dates, times and routing options that will allow your pets to travel safely.

My Assignee has 3 dogs, 2 cats and a Rabbit. What are the first steps?

You’ll need to begin the process 6 months prior to the date your assignees plan to board their flights, to ensure their pets are properly vaccinated and microchipped, all requisite documentation is in place and that their travel kennels are sized and outfitted correctly. It’s also absolutely critical to gradually train the pets to spend increasing amounts of time relaxing in their travel kennels. Every pet must qualify for a “Fit to Fly” certificate no more than 10 days before the flight. Pets cannot be overweight, and they must be well socialized, as they will be carefully removed and returned to their travel kennels during the trip.
